Department on Risk, Disaster Management and Strategic Planning (RDM/IZIIS)
MANDATE
Qualitative and quantitative research related to:
- Potential and effects of environmental (natural and anthropogenic) hazards;
- Intrinsic vulnerability and risk of built environment;
- Disaster-free spatial and master urban planning and development;
- Emergency, crisis management and relief planning;
- Disaster preparedness;
- Post-disaster damage and loss assessment, recovery and re-development;
- SAR and (HU)SAR engineering and relief;
- Implementation of non-invasive in-citu testing methods and procedures for advanced assessment of vulnerability, operational safety and monitoring of essential facilities, physical and social lifelines' and urban utility systems and components;
- GIS oriented ITs' on archiving, mapping, presentation and visualization of data acquired and results derived;
- Legislation environment for long term consistent implementation of state of the-art know‑how in risk and disaster risk reduction and mitigation, urban planning, architectural and engineering design and construction.
MAIN ACTIVITIES:
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis of environmental hazards' potential and impacts; mapping, zonation and microzonation;
- Vulnerability and risk assessment of built environment, urban areas, physical and social lifeline and utility systems; mapping, zonation and microzonation;
- Qualitative and quantitative hazard, vulnerability and risk analysis for insurance and reinsurance
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis of socio-economic impacts of disasters, search and rescue engineering measures and operative procedures;
- Post disaster damage and loss assessment, planning of measures for disaster revitalization, rehabilitation and re-development;
- Planning of risk reduction measures, preparedness planning and emergency management measures
- In situ determination of fundamental dynamic characteristics of structures (ambient vibrations) and soil deposits (microtremor), non-invasive in-situ investigations and assessment of quality of built-in materials, structural capacity and deformability characteristics, diagnosis of existing conditions, defectology and safety margins for reliable exploitation.
